Effects of regional economy functioning as well as approaches to regional economic security maintenance are analyzed. Advantages of the region as an economic entity, which is based on localization of production factors, possibilities of social capital forming and cooperation of regional administration and entrepreneurship, are shown. Its possibilities of prevention and counteraction to the external economic threats are outlined.
