The problems of domestic insurance market development are defined, the necessity of strengthening of insurance social functions directed at satisfaction of population and legal entities’ necessity in insurance protection is proved. Main attention is paid to determination of the essence of insurance social functions and their influence on national economy development and society development on the whole. The issues related to insurance protection maintenance of separate individuals and groups of population as a result of insurance social functions realization in Ukraine are detached into separate block.
