Historical aspects of the merger of the largest oil companies (in particular, the process of Tyumen Oil Company and British Petroleum merger) are analyzed. The development strategy of the newly created company and its operation in financial crisis of 2008 is examined. The effect of monopolization on the Ukrainian oil market and trends of the Ukrainian oil market development under the influence of TNK-BP are defined.
