The subject-matter of this publication is military installations functioning as tourist attractions. The issues are crucial from the point of view of a new form of tourism which has been developing recently, namely military tourism. The great virtues of this tourism can been found in Poland. Tourists interested in this subject-matter can visit historical battle fields, routes of march-pasts, watch fortifications and exhibitions of numerous military museums, participate in reconstructions of great historic events because huge armies came across Poland situated between superpowers. Russians, Germans, Austrians and the French left fortifications and fortresses. There is probably no place in Poland where battles did not take place or defensive lines were not built. In our country there are more than 16 thousand fortification objects of different types. The aim of the publication is to show that military installations have huge tourist potential and they arouse huge interest of tourists, and to show tourist treasures of such places on the example of Zamosc Fortress.

The main directions of changes of agrarian structure took place in two stages: in the years 1989-1993 at the time of adaptation of agriculture to the rules of the market economy, the second stage of changes took place in the years 1994-2002 and was connected with taking over farm properties of the former state-owned sector by the Agricultural Property of the State Treasury Agency as well as single entities. Taken actions by the then governments initiated restructuring and modernization of Polish agriculture, initiated transfer of lands – completely controlled by the state – to individual farms, minimizing the participation of the state-owned sector in general area of lands used agriculturally.

The paper presents the facts about the development of farm tourism on the cross-border area (Poland–Ukraine–Belarus) of the Leczna-Wlodawa Lake District. This area constitutes a place abounding with many natural phenomena such as: ice-marginal valley of Bug river, swamps and Sobiborski Landscape Park. The river Bug creates the landscape axis and at the same time it constitutes the ecological passageway which has an international meaning. It is worthy of note, that this area can be characterized by the coexistence of many cultures such as: Polish, Russian (Ukrainian, Belarusian), Lithuanian, Tatar and Jewish. The results of the survey carried out in this area show that many tourists are from abroad. It is a very positive forecast and it proves the fact that if the farm tourism will be developed there will be many more guests from Eastern border, especially from Ukraine and Belarus. The area is beautiful and it attracts people. This fact can contribute to the development of farm tourism in the whole cross-border area. Moreover, farm tourism has become very popular nowadays, and it is an alternative to conventional ways of spending free time.
